Your skin barrier is made of tightly packed skin cells (corneocytes) surrounded by lipids (ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids). Think of it like a brick wall: the cells are the bricks, and the lipids are the mortar.
The ingredients in your NK Beauty products support this structure on a biochemical level. Here’s how — in science and in plain English.

Aloe Vera — Polysaccharides, Glycoproteins & AntiInflammatory Compounds

Polysaccharides

What it means: Long sugar molecules that hold water. Why it helps: They act like a moisture-binding film on the skin, increasing hydration and reducing water loss. Aloe’s main polysaccharide, acemannan, is clinically shown to soothe irritation and support healing.

Glycoproteins

Understanding the benefits of skin care can be challenging. We often check the labels of our favourite brands, but how can we be sure they work for us? Let NK Beauty break down the key ingredients in their new product line and explain what each one does.

Argan

Argan oil comes from the thorny Argania spinosa tree, native to Morocco, where it adapts to barren, hot land. This oil, extracted from the fruit kernels, is used in food, haircare, and cosmetics.

This ingredient offers numerous cosmetic benefits! It is rich in fatty acids that provide deep moisture and contains antioxidants that protect against free radicals. While free radicals are not inherently harmful, their accumulation can lead to cellular damage, potentially contributing to the development of conditions such as cancer and heart disease. Therefore, having a defence against them is always beneficial.

Discover the incredible benefits of antioxidants found in Argan oil! Rich in powerful polyphenols, Argan oil not only shields your skin from harmful sun damage but also significantly diminishes visible signs of ageing while improving your skin’s texture and elasticity. With plenty of vitamin E, your skin will feel nourished and rejuvenated. Embrace a youthful glow with the natural magic of Argan!

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe Vera is a powerful ingredient that helps relieve dry skin, soothes irritation, and reduces redness. Aloe Vera can heal inflammation while keeping your skin hydrated and soft. It also helps lessen the appearance of scars and dark spots. This amazing plant boosts collagen and elastin production, which can reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Enjoy the natural benefits of Aloe Vera for healthier, youthful-looking skin.

Seaweed

Seaweed is an extraordinary powerhouse of polyphenols and iodine. This remarkable marine plant not only effectively combats cellulite but also helps to reverse minor sun damage. By incorporating seaweed into your skincare routine, you can significantly enhance your skin’s elasticity, achieving a revitalised and youthful glow. It promotes tissue regeneration and boosts microcirculation, aiding in reducing fine lines and pigmentation. The result? Plumper, more youthful-looking skin that radiates vitality and health!

Fulvic Acid

For thousands of years, Fulvic Acid has been revered not only as a natural food and plant source but also as a transformative supplement for over six decades. To truly understand the benefits of Fulvic Acid, it’s essential to explore beyond its basic definition. This remarkable compound is a potent fungal metabolite.

Imagine unlocking a treasure trove of health benefits that Fulvic Acid provides. It is a powerful organic electrolyte, harmonising cellular health in unparalleled ways. Consider it a super-fast Uber, effortlessly transporting minerals and essential elements directly to your living cells, boosting its effectiveness many times over.

But that’s not all—Fulvic Acid is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants, an effective free radical scavenger. Its unique capacity to interact with both negatively and positively charged unpaired electrons effectively neutralises harmful free radicals, protecting your body from oxidative stress.

Fulvic Acid excels at complexing and removing toxic metals and unwanted minerals from your system, promoting overall wellness.

Athletes and bodybuilders alike are turning to Fulvic Acid to ignite their metabolism. It’s astonishing capability to deliver oxygen directly to muscle cells not only enhances performance but also aids in reducing the buildup of lactic acid and carbon dioxide, ensuring you feel your best during every workout.

Incorporate Fulvic Acid into your routine, and witness a remarkable transformation in your health, energy, and vitality!

In conclusion, NK Beauty masterfully blends these potent ingredients to offer an abundance of skincare benefits, empowering you to achieve radiant, youthful-looking skin that exudes vitality and confidence. Just a small amount is all you need to transform your skin; it effortlessly leaves your face feeling luxuriously hydrated and deeply nourished.

As we head into the warmer months, sun protection is top of mind. Whether you’re SPF-savvy or still getting used to the idea of applying sunscreen every day, the facts around sun protection can be murky at best.

Even those of us who think we know better can buy into myths and misconceptions around SPF. We look at the science to debunk some of the common beliefs about sunscreen that you might hear this summer.

1. Chemical sunscreen absorbs UV rays; mineral sunscreen reflects them.

Both chemical and mineral (physical) filters used in sunscreens absorb UV rays and convert them into heat. This myth probably stems from the fact that mineral sunscreens do reflect a small amount of UV rays (around 10%), but their UV-protective power mainly comes from their ability to absorb UV rays.

2. Mineral sunscreens last longer than chemical sunscreens, so you don’t have to reapply them as often.

No matter what type of filter ingredients your sunscreen uses, you should reapply every two hours of sun exposure. While it was once believed that chemical sunscreens are less photostable than mineral sunscreens, research shows that with most chemical filters, that’s not true.

3. The higher the SPF, the longer you’re protected.

“SPF” refers to how long UVB rays would take to redden your skin when using the product exactly as directed—and truthfully, most people don’t wear sunscreen under the same conditions as a lab. Whether your sunscreen is SPF 30 or SPF 50, it’s best to reapply every two hours, just like the label suggests.

4. You need to wear sunscreen even if you’re indoors.

This one is partially true—in reality, it depends on how much UV exposure you’re getting wherever you are inside. Calculating your UV exposure is a complicated process and can vary based on how close you’re sitting to a window, what time of day it is, and more. According to this blog post by cosmetic chemist Michelle Wong, if you’re sitting around one meter away from a window with less than 2% sky view, you’re probably getting around 1% of the amount of UV you would get from being outdoors in direct sunlight. All in all, it’s your call—but the UV exposure you get indoors may be less of a concern than you originally thought.

5. “Reef-safe” sunscreens won’t harm coral reefs.

The truth is, there’s no regulated or official definition of “reef-safe” or “reef-friendly”—no matter what the label on your sunscreen says. What’s more, the studies linking sunscreen to coral reef bleaching are contentious at best. Based on the data we have today, it’s more likely that bigger issues like climate change are behind coral bleaching—not your sunscreen.

Properly cleaning your makeup brushes is so important. Every time you use your makeup brushes they will get packed full of grime from the air itself, the skin cells and residual product. Because of that, they need to be cleaned properly and with due care. It is important how you clean them, to make sure you are protecting yourself and your makeup brushes!

I am an average girl who works Monday to Friday so I use my make-up brushes every morning before work. It is important that if you are in the beauty industry as a professional this method is not effective, more of a deep cleanse is required.

This is how I wash my brushes while saving £££

ECO FRIENDLY AND FREE

Just add water, salt, and a washing-up tub!

I use a washing-up tub (those rectangular ones you buy to wash the dishes). I take the brushes from my makeup storage and then boil the kettle. I drop my washing-up brushes in the tub and pour boiling water in and salt; as this is a natural disinfectant, it does the work without adding harsh chemicals to the mix.

I allow the brushes to soak for about 15 minutes, and then I pour the water away and wash the brushes under the sink, allowing the salt to rinse out. I then enable the brushes to dry on a drying mat; you can also use one of those utensils for drying cutlery. But ensure the washing up tub, and utensil drying kit have been sanitised before use with boiling water and preferably salt.

I get some eco-friendly paper towels and gently dry them and allow them to dry on a new set of paper towels on the side. It is important to note that with wooden handle brushes if you allow them to dry in a cup and naturally they will rot the handle as the water seeps downwards and also forces the brushes into a different shape when positioned like this.

How I wash my sponges

ECO FRIENDLY AND FREE

Just add water, salt and a bowl from the kitchen!

I begin by taking the sponge under the kitchen tap and squishing the sponge in my hand, allowing the excess foundation to leave the sponge and drain down the sink. I then boil the kettle and use a kitchen bowl, which has been sanitised with boiling water beforehand, I then put the sponges in the bowl and allow the boiling water to soak over them. I then add some salt, a natural disinfectant which will then work its magic for about 15 minutes, I like to leave this to happen. Then return to repeat the full process.

It is just a rough estimate to allow the sponge to have really soaked and disinfected. You can really soak for as long as you like, or repeat the process as many times as you see fit. But then paper dry it with some eco-friendly paper towels, do not allow the moister to sit while it is damp as it breeds bacteria.

How I wash my tanning mitt

ECO FRIENDLY AND FREE

Just add water, salt, a bowl and a pair of marigolds!

I begin by taking the mitt and rinsing it under a tap. I would recommend if you do not want your nails to be stained by the tan to wear marigolds. Rinse until the water runs clear under the tap. Dissolve some salt in a boiling bowl of water and allow the water to become lukewarm and slowly rinse the bowl over each side of the mitt. Continue to rinse under the tap until the water runs clear.

Then dry with some eco-friendly paper towels.

Most of us are frequent users of makeup and tan, applying the two more often than we are ever maintaining the applicators themselves! It might seem as though it is too small and insignificant of a thing, even to contemplate washing the applicators after a long and hard day. Still, it has been proven by dermatologists and makeup professionals alike that we should be cleaning our applicators at least once a week. This means, at least every Sunday, we should put aside some TLC for our applicators, whether they be for our makeup or our tan.

As an acne sufferer, when I first developed the condition to reduce inflammation and spots, I immediately looked at my makeup application’s methods and practices. Bacteria, of course, is one of the leading causes of acne, there are other factors, such as hormonal triggers, but I was first concerned about the immediate suspect. This meant I became much more vigilant when setting aside the time cleaning the sponges in boiling hot water and salt to rinse them and kill the bacteria. My cleaning regime became the sole focus of my makeup application. Unfortunately, my acne did not dissipate. It was later discovered to be hormonal acne. I am now on doctor-prescribed treatment, which does help to remove the blemishes and prevent them from forming.

I have now slipped back into old routines of not maintaining my applicator hygiene, and although I do not attribute the cause of my acne to the sponges and brushes, I have noticed that I do have spots in some of the places I did not at the peak of my acne. This made me re-evaluate the way I see maintenance. The exciting thing that I have found is that the worse my hygiene is, in terms of the applicators being washed and sterilized, the worse my face surface is when I apply my foundation. My face is drier, as I have also set aside less time to clean and wash my face, the resurfacing, and the killing of the bacteria, which I so religiously did once a week under the LED light. The overall maintenance, self-care, and cleaning rituals should be so central to our lives for the maximum benefit of health, hygiene, and the result of sitting in a makeup chair for over an hour.

The takeaway message is that it is all linked. The time we spend on self-care and preparation seems arduous and lengthy. It appears as though it can’t have much of an impact, just like how we forget to change our bedsheets often, but as bedbugs bite us in the night when we do not alter our bedsheets, don’t let the bacteria on your face get out of control, you can’t see bedbugs with the naked eye. But we most certainly spot those pimples on our faces.

Your skin is the largest organ of your body. Between pollution, unprotected sun exposure and non-existent skin care routines, it can really take a beating.

It’s time to break some of your bad habits and avoid common skin mistakes to give your skin a break.

We’ve all made mistakes in our beauty regimen. Maybe you wash your face with plain old bar soap or don’t regularly use body lotion. It’s time to stop theis cycle. Here are five New Year’s resolutions to benefit the health of your skin:

Using the Right Cleanser

Cleansing is the first step in any skin care regimen, and that cleanser choice is important. So many people make the mistake of picking up any old random bar of soap to wash their face. Most bar soaps that are designed to cleanse your body contain harsh deodorizers and detergents that are not gentle enough for your face. Evaluate your skin to determine what type of cleanser your skin requires. If it’s oily, look for a cleanser to target sebum production. Perhaps a lightweight foaming gel cleanser would be best. If your skin is on the dry side, look for a cleanser that will moisturize the skin while cleansing. A lotion-based cleanser may be perfect for you. Pay attention to your skin and choose the right cleanser. But whatever you do, put down that ordinary bar soap.

Don’t Worship the Sun

You might look better with a suntan, but there’s a good chance you’re doing mor harm than good. Put down the tanning oil and pick up the sunscreen. And whatever you do, avoid tanning beds at all costs. It’s important to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. These rays burn your skin and are a leading contributor to early aging. You might look good with that savage tan today, but flash-forward and you might not be happy with the wrinkly person staring back at you from the mirror. Sunscreen is critical when it comes to protecting your skin and you should never go out into the sun without it. Sunless tanners have come a long way and you don’t need to worry about the orange ‘fake bake’ look anymore. And the best part is you can get that gorgeous tan 12 months out of the year.

Avoid Over-scrubbing

You probably love the way you look after a good buffing and polishing, but there‘s such a thing as too much of a good thing. Exfoliation of the face and body is something that you should be doing on a regular basis. But you need to be gentle. Remember, your skin is a living organ and you need to take care of it. The last thing you want to do is scrub your skin so much that it becomes red and irritated. Take it easy when cleansing and exfoliating. Use soft and gentle circular motions to achieve the most desirable skin. Nothing good can come from over-scrubbing your skin.

Never Pop Pimples

You’re probably guilty of popping a pimple or two at some point. It’s so tempting to do that it seems almost unavoidable. But it’s very important to resist the urge to jab at outbreaks. Every time you start attacking a pimple, you run the risk of making the problem even worse. You can spread bacteria to other areas of your face. The troubling spot can now look bigger and much redder than before. Not only that, but the picking could result in permanent scarring. No matter what, resist the urge to pop those pimples and be patient in weathering the breakout storm.

Reduce Stress

It’s amazing how a lack of sleep and stress can negatively impact your skin. It’s impossible to look your best when you’re exhausted and stressed out. Your skin loses its glow and vibrancy, the circles under your eyes become darker and more apparent. Beyond that, it just makes you look older. Remember, we call it “beauty sleep” for a reason, because we definitely look our best when we’re well rested. You’d be surprised at just how many people aren’t getting enough hours of sleep in a night. So, for the sake of your skin, get a good night’s sleep and try to unwind and relax.

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes the skin to darken in some people, causing a tan. Many people appreciate how a tan makes them look. However, tanning carries risks, so it is important to tan safely when exposing the skin to UV rays.

This article explores the benefits and disadvantages of tanning and ways to minimize the risks.

Is it possible to tan safely?

A common misconception is that a tan indicates good health. While there are some health benefits to being in the sun, prolonged exposure damages the skin. This may increase the risk of premature aging and some health conditions.

The following table lists the benefits and risks of sun exposure:

Benefits

Risks

In moderation, sun exposure can increase vitamin D levels.

Every time a person tans, they damage the DNA in their skin. This increases the chances of developing the skin cancers basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.

Many people consider tanned skin to be more aesthetically pleasing.

With too much sun, the skin can age prematurely, leading to wrinkles, lines, loose skin, and brown spots. A tan can also make stretch marks more visible.

Studies show that UV exposure can improve a person’s mood.

When people spend leisure time outside, it is easy to misjudge how much sun exposure the skin gets, which can lead to sunburn.

StudiesTrusted Source suggest sun exposure can reduce eczema and rhinitis in adolescents.

People with darker skin are less likelyTrusted Source to get sunburn due to the higher melanin content in their skin, which offers some UV light protection. However, this also means those with darker skin are less able to synthesize vitamin D from sunlight.

How to tan safely outside

As tanning requires sunbathing for extended periods, it always carries some risks, even if people take precautions to minimize them. It is best to limit sun exposure to moderate amounts and wear protective clothing outside.

However, if a person wishes to tan outdoors, they can follow these tips:

Avoid the sun from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., when UV rays are strongest.

Regularly apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30. Re-apply after swimming or sweating, even if the sunscreen is water-resistant.

Avoid spending excessive time in the sun in one session. It is better to tan in shorter intervals, as a person may not appear burnt until they go inside.

Wear a hat and sunglasses with 99–100% UVA and UVB protection to protect the scalp and eyes.

Drink plenty of water and take regular breaks to avoid dehydration and heat exhaustion.

Seek shade or go indoors if the skin starts to look pink or feel sore. People with darker skin should note that they may not notice any changes in skin color.

It is important to note that not all sun damage occurs when people are directly in the sun. A person should remember:

Sand, snow, and water all reflect the sun’s rays and increase the chances of sunburn even if people are in the shade.

UV rays can penetrate clouds, so even if the sky looks dark, sunburn can still occur.

Trees, umbrellas, and canopies do not offer complete protection. If a person can see their shadow, they may still be exposing themselves to UV light.

Other ways of getting a tan

An alternative way to get a tan is to apply fake tan. These products usuallyTrusted Source contain the compound dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which temporarily stains the skin brown, creating a similar appearance to a natural tan.

Fake tanning may have fewer risks than tanning beds or sunbathing. However, these products are not without drawbacks.

The DHA in fake tan can increase the chances of sunburn if someone becomes exposed to sunlight within 24 hours of application.
