Got eyeliner or foundation stains on your sheets? That’s no problem with these effective cleaning tips.

We’ve all done it before: got into bed before taking off makeup or went down for a quick nap only to wake up with eyeliner smeared on your favorite pillowcase. Like many stains, smudges of eye makeup, foundation and lipstick can be difficult to remove from fabric. And sometimes a quick rinse through the washing machine just isn’t enough.

But before you strip the bed and throw away your favorite set of sheets, try these simple stain-fighting tricks. Whether your makeup is oil-based or powder, these cleaning tips — mixed with some determination — should remove those stubborn stains in no time. (For more cleaning tips, you can also check out how often you should clean your makeup brushes, and the best way to machine wash your sheets and bedding.)

Step 1

Figure out what stain and material you’re dealing with

The first step is maybe an obvious one, but it matters in how efficiently you’ll be able to remove the stain — you have to know what you’re dealing with. Is the stain from an oil-based lipstick? Is it powder eyeshadow? Are your sheets a cotton blend or something more delicate (like silk)?

All of these questions are important to answer before you start dumping a mixture of solutions onto your bedding because different cleaning solvents work better on certain stains and fabrics. (I’ll break down what is best for each stain later.) Once you’ve done this, you can start the cleaning process.

Pro tip: Start the cleaning process right away! The older the stain, the more it sets into the fabric and the tougher it becomes to remove.

Step 2

Remove the excess makeup

This is the quickest step of the process, but it’s important to not skip it. With a spoon or butter knife, gently scrape the stain to remove any excess that may be caked onto your bedding. This process not only makes the stain smaller, but it’ll also prevent the excess from spreading once you pour a liquid solvent on the stain. You may also blot the stain with a damp paper towel before you start applying solutions.

Step 3

Make and apply your cleaning solution

Now it’s time to clean. Below, I break down which methods and solutions are best for each type of makeup stain.

I highly recommend first testing the solution on a small, unnoticeable section like a corner piece to make sure the solution won’t damage or leave marks on your bedding.

Removing lipstick

Most lipsticks are oil-based, which means you’ll need a solution to cut through that oil base. A dish detergent and warm water mixture can work, but isopropyl rubbing alcohol is the most effective at removing lipstick stains.

Simply soak a cotton ball in the isopropyl rubbing alcohol and dab at the stain gently. This process works best with fresh cotton balls so don’t be afraid to use several. The red or pink pigment should begin to fade as you repeat the process.

Removing liquid foundation

Foundation might be the most common makeup stain found on bedding. Luckily, there are several effective cleaning solutions to tackle the foundation stain.

A 3% hydrogen peroxide solution is one of your best bets. After applying, work the solution into the fabric with a clean toothbrush.

Another common household item that surprisingly works well is shaving cream. Apply the shaving cream to the stained area and let it sit for three to five minutes before gently dabbing the area with a clean, damp cloth. Rinse with cold water and repeat as needed.

Removing eyeliner and mascara

Dishwashing detergent is a viable option for getting both eyeliner and mascara out of bedding. Just mix a few drops (up to a tablespoon) of the grease-fighting detergent with 2 cups of warm water, dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently blot at the stain until it begins to lift from the fabric.

Make sure you blot delicately rather than scrubbing to avoid spreading the stain. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Removing powder makeup

From eyeshadow to blush, there are several powder-based makeups that can unfortunately smear on your bedding. Powder makeup stains are best handled with undiluted liquid laundry detergent. Just apply the detergent straight to the stain and let it sit for at least 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Removing cosmetic stains from silk pillowcases

Your silk pillowcase has a ton of perks: It causes less damage to the hair, helps your skin retain moisture and stays cleaner longer. Plus, silk feels so luxurious. On the other hand, it’s also hard to wash and can easily become damaged. Luckily, you don’t have to pitch a silk pillowcase if you get cosmetic stains on one: You can use many of the tips listed above.

You can use a cotton ball soaked with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol for most makeup stains on a silk pillowcase. You can also use diluted household ammonia (2:1 ratio of water to ammonia) on silk to remove most stains. Use a clean cloth or cotton ball to apply the agent, but don’t forget to wear gloves to protect your hands.

Step 4

Wash your bedding

Once you’ve applied the solution and allowed adequate time for the mixture to work into the stain, clean your bedding in the washing machine as you normally would. Only put the bedding in the dryer if the entire stain has been removed after the cycle. Heat from the dryer could actually cause stains to set in further, making it more difficult to get the stain out once and for all. Otherwise, allow your bedding to air dry.

Everyone loves a fresh beginning. If you wish to wake up with glowing and clean skin, then you must remove your makeup..

You’re doing your skin the absolute favor by removing the makeup at night. Napping with makeup on can cause acne, dry skin, and even wrinkles.

Leaving eye makeup on can lead to its own set of issues, including broken eyelashes, styes, eye irritations, and eye infections? This is why taking off your makeup is very important. So, here are a few tips to enable you to get flawlessly bare, makeup-free skin.

Be extra gentle with your face

We are certain you’ve come across numerous makeup-removing items in many formulations. Be it cleansing oil, micellar water, bi-phase makeup remover, or cleansing water – the choices are vast. Nonetheless, remember your skin type before buying a makeup removal product. It shouldn’t cause any unwanted skin issues whose main job was to avoid it.

Once you’ve selected the makeup removing cleanser, bring a Q-tip or cotton pad, moisten it in the makeup remover and lightly glide across the skin.

Give your eyes more attention

Eye makeup can be very hard to take off, particularly removing liquid liners or pesky mascara. Instead of washing away eye makeup rapidly, moisten the cotton pad in your makeup remover and gently pat the makeup away.

For beauty items such as liner or mascara, don’t forget to use a cleanser-soaked makeup remover pad. Hold and press it smoothly over your eyes for a few minutes. Then, gently slide the cotton pad over your closed eyelids, and your eye makeup will be instantly removed.

Remember your hairline

We realize that you’ve done a great job using your foundation, and it’s difficult to remove that masterpiece. But you need to! Since the foundation, when utilized, goes to your hairline, too, remember to rinse that spot as well.

Utilize a headband or scrunchie to wrap your hair in a sharp back style to make sure you get off every bit of makeup from your hairline. Your roots might get a little wet, but they’ll not be unfavorable.

Conclusion

In the world of elegance, taking off your makeup before going to bed is one of the most crucial rituals. Most individuals utilize makeup to improve their elegance. Nonetheless, when they have to take it off, they feel extremely lazy. Although it is not harmful, this negligence can cause serious impacts, such as tagged pores, loss of luminosity, and the appearance of spots, among others. This is why follow the above-mentioned to remove your makeup. However, while removing your makeup, always use the best quality beauty products.

Struggling after a lousy night’s sleep? Maybe you have little children who don’t sleep through the night, or you lost track of time binge-watching Netflix. Whatever the reason, your skin will be struggling. Puffy eyes, anyone?

This is because your body does most of its repairing at night. In fact, between around 10pm to 2am is when the magic happens.

Why does my face look dull and tired?

Another reason for losing our glow when we haven’t slept well is because a lack of sleep is stressful to your body.

Yong-Li Zhou, the founder of luxury stem cell skincare brand, Enbacci, says when you don’t sleep, your skin becomes dehydrated.

“This results from high cortisol (stress hormone) levels that impact effective collagen production, which is important for maintaining effective skin barrier function.”

So how can we combat tired, stressed skin?

Drink water and get moving

It sounds obvious, but drinking a few glasses in the morning will help combat dehydration. And if you can muster up the energy, exercise is a great way to get your circulation going and possibly bring back a little glow.

But if exercise is off the cards, there are some other things you can do to help you look less tired quickly.

How to de-puff your eyes

Puffy eyes are a big giveaway regarding how much sleep you have (or haven’t) had.

While techniques work for different people, Yong- Li says, “Blood vessels dilate from a lack of sleep, so what we are trying to do is look for ways to constrict those dilated vessels.”

And an excellent way to do that is with something cold. If you’re game enough, you can try splashing cold water on your face or placing cold spoons on your eyes.

However, Yong-Li says some people’s skin requires a little extra help.

“This is where massaging around the eyes can help to reduce puffiness,” she says. “The 24K Rose Quartz Roller we have is a great way to massage around the face and gently roll around the eye area.”

What about tea bags?

Leelah Linke, a certified Dermal Clinician and co-founder of St Skin, says tea bags work because they contain caffeine.

“The trick to tea bags is that the caffeine acts as a vasoconstrictor which visibly reduces the appearance of blood vessels and dark circles.”

If you’re after a product, Skin expert Lauren Lee, host of the Korean Beauty Show podcast, says placing hydrogels under your eyes “can make you feel better, and they can help brighten dark circles and hydrate the skin.

How to de-puff your face

Again, cold water is excellent for increasing circulation to your face and reducing puffy skin.

Otherwise, Lauren’s go-to is a Korean facial massage to drain the lymph nodes. She explains how to do that here.

What skincare ingredients help tired-looking skin?

Yong-Li says to hydrate skin, “you are looking for humectants in your ingredients list or ingredients with deep moisturising and skin conditioning properties.”

“Examples of humectants include glycerine, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate (or hyaluronic acid) and aloe vera.

“Other moisturising or skin conditioning ingredients include sunflower oil, macadamia oil and shea butter (think fruit and plant oils and butters).”

Fake it with makeup

If all else fails, there’s always makeup to help hide dark circles under your eyes.

Lauren says, “A good concealer can help. Korean beauty brand Skinfood makes a cult favourite dark circle eye concealer with Norwegian salmon oil to boost skin immunity. It also assists in concealing dark spots, under eye marks and fine lines.”

Cindy Cindy Luken, the founder of natural cosmetics brand Lük Beautifood, says a liquid highlight or luminiser can help give the illusion of fresh skin.

“Apply to the high points of the face, including the inner eye area, to help skin appear more awake and refreshed.

“If you have a long day ahead, consider carrying a hydrating facial mist with you and spritzing the skin throughout the day to replenish depleted moisture.”
