Soft makeup for every day/new glam looks

Makeup has changed considerably over the years, and we have learned to depend on it less with the introduction of face masks so that the lower parts of our face have been unexposed. Psychologically it created more of a shift away from the ultra-glam looks we have learned to love, such as harsh contouring with both liquid and powder super thick eyelashes. Right now, the latest trend appears to be the no-makeup look; this involves defined and natural-looking fluffy, thick brows, ultra-glossy textures (lips, skin, eyelids, and cheeks), pastel & matte eyeshadow. Last but not least, kitten eyeliner (a smaller winged eyeliner and derivative of the cat eyeliner).

Foundation brands that provided the thickest coverage during the mid-2000’s took over and ultimately dominated. But as we have radically shifted away from pore-clogging products, adjusted to wearing no makeup under the face masks. The foundation we have gravitated toward is the fleshy tones that appear as though natural skin should look and ultimately breathe. The base for those usually consists of a subtle highlighting primer that produces a radiant, no foundation-looking glow that looks just like the kind of skin you see on a person who drinks a lot of water!

Face-Lifting techniques

Makeup has always been one fantastic “anti-aging” tool because it can instantly make you appear more dewy and elastic, cover up dark patches and emphasise your best features. However, there are far more creative things to do these days than the basic covering up of spots and accentuating your best features. You can now create your best features! If you do not have a defined cheekbone, jawline, or lifted eyes, you can use makeup to fake this! This ties into that no-makeup look, appearing to have naturally contoured skin like Angelina Jolie.

Another great way to appear as though the clock has gone back is the ‘cat-eye’ trend; this is particularly popular as more than ever, because who doesn’t love a cat-eye! The way people achieve this is to place a light contour on the outer eye in a line up to the outer end of the eyebrow, blend this in, and instantly notice a visibly lifted look. Accompany this with the ‘kitten-eye’ look, a mini and more natural cat-eye version. You will look remarkably brighter in the eye and appear more youthful and lifted.

New Old-School Blush

Healthy, glowing, and vibrant skin was a popular beauty trend in the 1930s. This was mainly seen in Joan Bennett, Katherine Hepburn, and other glamorous actresses’ and women alike. Heavy rouge would give a flushed and youthful radiance that helped achieve a natural but very glamorous and pretty appearance.

It seems that history does often repeat itself as we see the resurrection of this trend in 2022, with a philosophy of going bold or going home; peachy, bright coral red, and deep oranges are all the rage.

Unique, bold colours and unusual 3D pieces

Makeup is more of self-expression than a work of art. Forget perfection; it’s overrated. We expect 2022 will see more bold, unique, and creative styles of expression – such as rhinestone-heavy eyes, heavily coloured neon eyeliner, futuristic embellishments, glitter, pearls, neon pink lipstick, and all things bright when it comes to those special occasions and nights out (when they return of course!)
